This is an award that will provide one graduate per year of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School an opportunity to maximize their potential via a post-secondary education.
The bursary will provide up to $2,000/year for 4 years for each recipient.
Maureen Monette was a teacher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel (formerly known as Gardenvale) for most of her career starting in the early 60s. She taught kindergarten for several years. Later she moved into resource and then proceeded to focus on a program for students with special needs.
Mrs. Monette was an inspiration to her students and at 4’10” commanded (and was granted) the utmost respect from even the most challenging of students.
She never stopped learning and continued her pursuit of knowledge throughout her life. Maureen was particularly proud of her Masters in Theology that she achieved while working full time and raising 3 boys, right next to the Gardenvale schoolyard.
Her volunteer efforts were endless and overtook her retirement years. Her involvement in projects in Cambodia, Cross Lake, Africa and Nicaragua continue to be felt to this day.
